Housing Development Center is pleased to announce its support for the historic Yes for Affordable Homes campaign to create homes for Portlanders who need our support most in this housing crisis. The $258.4 million affordable housing bond will create permanently affordable housing for tens of thousands of people over the life of the homes, and marks the first time that Portland voters will be able to vote in support of affordable housing.
At HDC, our mission is to strengthen opportunities for low-income people by development, preserving and sustaining affordable housing and community facilities. Over the course of 23 years, we’ve helped 56 mission-driven organizations develop and preserve more than 5,400 units of affordable, sustainable housing for low-income families and individuals—yet the gap between need and supply keeps growing.
Narrowing this gap requires multiple strategies: improving economic opportunity for low-income people, finding creative ways to reduce housing costs, developing effective policies to boost affordability in the private housing market and, yes, investing public funds in permanent affordable housing.
Please join HDC and our staff in supporting the bond campaign—by volunteering your time to help raise funds and get out the vote and by making a personal or business donation to the campaign. Sign up to get involved or make a donation here.
And don’t forget to vote “yes” on or before November 8!
