The first 12 of 24 modular units made the seven-mile trip across North Portland from the Mods PDX plant in St. Johns to the LISAH construction site in Kenton on August 26 and 27. (Update: the LISAH development is now named Argyle Gardens. View photos of the completed development here.) With LISAH’s on-site construction phase expected to occur over just seven months, the modular cohousing development is on target to open to residents—72 low-income and formerly homeless individuals—in early March 2020. HDC is serving as sponsor Transition Projects’ development consultant for the project. A community event will celebrate the installation of the first modules tomorrow at 3:30.

Adaptable to the needs of populations such as entry-level workers, students, young adults exiting the foster care system, and single adults nearing or in retirement, LISAH’s innovative model “seeks to drive down both the construction and operating costs of deeply affordable housing by refreshing the single room occupancy (SRO) approach to housing single adults with very low incomes,” Transition Projects Executive Director George Devendorf said in a statement released yesterday.
